Bringing others to my surgery consultation

We know the decision to have breast augmentation is important and deeply personal. Breast augmentation surgery can have a positive impact on self-confidence and in return can improve the personal relationship and/or intimacy with their partner. While it is quite normal to involve your spouse, significant other or other loved ones in your surgical journey, it is important your decision to have surgery is 100% based on what YOU want. “When patients call my office, they often ask if they can bring their husband to the initial consultation,” states Dr. Greenwald, “I generally encourage involvement of the spouse since often times they will be the primary caregiver during the patient’s post-surgical recovery. However, the patient should always understand she is the ultimate decision maker with her breast augmentation choices.”

During the consultation, patients will have the opportunity to discuss their concerns and provide information on their desired shape and size. Measurements are taken by the surgeon to determine the ideal size and type implant for their individual body. For many patients, having someone they trust involved in the sizing process can help narrow their choices on size, shape and profile. However, your friends, family members or spouse should be supportive of your decisions and give honest feedback based on what is in your best interest, not based on their wants and/or opinions. “I never want my patients to be pressured to make choices based on what others want,” says Dr. Greenwald, “it is important they move forward with confidence in all decisions related to their surgery.”

Whether you decide to involve others or take a more private approach to your breast augmentation surgery, Dr. Greenwald and his nurturing staff will guide you through the process every step of the way.
