Breast augmentation has become increasing popular among women of all ages but particularly among those in their early 20s to late 30s. Many of the women in this age group are entering the workforce or are career-focused, often unmarried and are not quite ready to have children. Over time, these post-breast augmentation women may have changes in their lifestyle

where having children becomes a greater priority. We often hear from our patients 5, 10 years or even later after surgery asking how their augmented breasts will be affected by pregnancy and childbirth.

Fortunately, there the integrity of implants pre or post pregnancy are not compromised nor should your augmented breasts prevent you from breastfeeding. However, the shape and appearance of your breast may change. “During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the breast tissue may stretch and then shrink, causing a change in breast size and occasionally some skin laxity” says Dr, Greenwald. To address these concerns, many women opt for a larger implant size or chose to have a breast lift with our without an implant exchange. To determine which surgical option is best, Dr. Greenwald recommends a follow-up with your plastic surgeon no earlier than 6 months post-pregnancy or 3 months after you have stopped breast feeding.
